Stavanger and Lysefjord

This morning we came in to dock at Stavanger and, as the Captain had said the previous night that the waters would now be calmer, I ditched the seabands but carefully kept them for the return journey home!!

After breakfast, my hubby wasn't feeling well and, at one point, I thought I'd be doing our shore excursion on my own.  However, he thankfully brightened up a bit and once we were out on our fjord trip, he felt much better.

The weather was grey and cold with a little rain, but we tried not to let that dampen our spirits and we headed up to the front of the boat for a bit of bracing fresh air!!  We headed off and then into the Lysefjord where we were to pause at the bottom of the very famous Pulpit Rock. Before that however, we paused at Vagabond's Cave and also fed some goats.

Feeding some goats en route and a seagull snuck into the photo!!
The cliffs at Pulpit Rock are very high indeed, and they were unfortunately shrouded in mist when we arrived!!  This is about the best photo that I got!!  The rock is the large square shape that sticks out over the fjord.

From here, we headed towards Helleren Beach for coffee and waffles.

One of the many waterfalls we saw in Norway
A Viking awaits our arrival!

After our very enjoyable stop, we head back to Stavanger, but at the back of the boat this time as it had grown really quite cold and everyone needed some shelter!!  Once back in Stavanger, we had some time to spare prior to heading back to the ship, so we had a wee look at the old part of Stavenger, which was very pretty indeed.

After boarding, we went to the sailaway party and off we went on our travels once more.  We had a change in itinerary however as we were now heading to Flam first rather than Olden.  As we were sailing off a seagull landed quite near me, and seemed quite pleased with the attention as I took photos!!

Tonight there was another cocktail party to attend - this time for Britannia Club members and for 'newbies' - that was us, as we had never been on a Saga cruise before, so off we went (not as dressed up this time) for yet more champagne and canapes!!

There were three type of dress code - Formal where ladies were to wear cocktail dresses and gents a dinner suit or dark suit and tie; Informal where ladies could wear smart clothes and gents an open necked shirt (or tie if desired) and jacket; Casual where again ladies could wear smart clothes and gents could wear an open necked shirt with no need for tie or jacket.  It was quite easy actually once you got used to it.

There was another 1950/60's show on tonight in the Britannia Lounge (alternatives were also available in the Drawing Room, and there was always some sort of entertainment on in the likes of Coopers Bar and Aviators Bar).

These guys were from Explosive Productions, and they danced their hearts out for 45 continual minutes!!  They were just fantastic!!

After the show it was one last drink and off to bed - praying for better weather for our trip into Flam in the morning!!
